Setup by client

Claude Desktop
  1. Get an API key from the Firecrawl dashboard
  2. Add to `claude_desktop_config.json` with `npx -y firecrawl-mcp` and env `FIRECRAWL_API_KEY`
  3. Restart Claude Desktop; the scrape/crawl/search tools become available
Cursor
  1. Run `cursor mcp add firecrawl "npx -y firecrawl-mcp"`
  2. Set the `FIRECRAWL_API_KEY` environment variable in your shell profile

Known issues & workarounds

⚠︎ Auth error on first call

Confirm `FIRECRAWL_API_KEY` is set in the environment of the MCP process, not just your interactive shell.

⚠︎ Crawl returns empty on sessions with heavy JS

Enable the headless browser crawl option in the Firecrawl dashboard; plain scrapes may miss client-rendered content.
