Decision guide

If you want a full local agent with chat apps and workflow automation out of the box, Nanobot is the pick. If you only need a thin MCP server layer, prefer a focused framework instead.

FAQ

Is Nanobot a plain MCP server?

No — it is a self-hosted agent framework with a WebUI and chat apps. MCP is one of its integration layers, not its whole identity.

Can I self-host Nanobot on a laptop?

Yes, that is the target use case. A reasonably modern machine is enough for local models; you can also point it at hosted LLMs.

How does Nanobot compare to running fastmcp + a UI separately?

Nanobot bundles the agent, tools, memory and UI. The framework route gives you more control but more assembly.
